Jazz Band

Performing as a jazz singer

As a jazz singer Alice works throughout the UK and abroad. She is available for any recording work, corporate events, weddings, and civil partnerships. Here are the various line ups that are available:

Duo - piano and vocals.

Trio - piano, drums and vocals or piano, bass and vocals.

Quartet - piano, bass, drums and vocals.

Quintet - piano, bass, drums, vocals and saxophone.

Alice uses first class professional musicians who are totally dedicated to their art. Eugene Portman is her main pianist and Musical director; and he is at the core of any line up that you choose. Eugene is an exceptional jazz pianist who has certainly made his mark in the UK. Alice tries to use the same musicians for every performance but there are some occasions when she has to book other musicians in their place. The replacements are always first rate musicians who have proved their worth with their exceptional talent and experience. Her regular musicians are as follows:

Eugene Portman

Eugene Portman has had quite a varied career which has encompassed classical work as well as jazz. He is in great demand as a solo jazz pianist but he also has a great talent as an accompanist. His patience and understanding brings out the best in any vocalist he works with.

Eugene playing has been influenced by the likes of George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Dudley Moore, so his playing tends not to be too high-brow and makes the ideal accompaniment to Alice's voice.

Mike Porter-Ward

Michael Porter-Ward has been a professional musician for many years and plays both the double bass and the bass guitar. He has been involved in many genres of music and has worked with many bands, from light orchestras to heavy rock and ranging from duos, trios, quartets, 6 piece jazz bands to big bands. His forte and passion is jazz and has played with some wonderful musicians, including: Harry Connick Jn, Scott Hamilton, Bobby Scott, Jim Mullen and Acker Bilk to name but a few.

Roy Jackson

Roy Jackson has worked with many bands from orchestral to funk. However, his main focus has always been jazz and it is this style that Roy has become mostly associated with. Roy has played with the 'Mike Miller Trio', the 'Swing Junkies' and the jazz/funk/soul band 'JFS Collective' winning the 2-10fm search for a band competion in Basingstoke.

These days Roy Jackson can be seen playing with 'Back2funk', 'Steve Conway' 'Jazz Junction' and many other jazz ensembles.
